China and Nicaragua hold virtual meeting for possible cooperation and investment in fisheries and aquaculture

This Wednesday, October 30, a virtual meeting was held between representatives of the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China, MARA, the Chinese Overseas Fisheries Association, COFA, the Nicaraguan Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture, INPESCA, and the Secretariat of the Presidency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports, SPIEX.


Comrade Sun Haiwen, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, highlighted China's interest in forging a mutually beneficial relationship with Nicaragua for the use of high value-added species such as tuna, but also in the capture of lobster, shrimp, sea cucumber, crab, octopus, squid, as well as in the development of aquaculture, a sector in which China has very advanced technology and knowledge.


Comrade Laureano Ortega highlighted “the importance of fishing as a strategic sector for the economy, underlining the potential it has to generate employment and contribute to the development of our country.”


Comrade Edward Jackson emphasized that “Nicaragua, thanks to its strategic location, has great potential in its fishing banks and invited Chinese companies to establish operations in Nicaragua.”
