The 18th China-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit began today, Monday, November 3, in Zhengzhou, China.
The event is organized by the Government of the People's Republic of China through the China Council for the Promotion of Investment and Trade and includes the participation of official delegations from 27 Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Nicaragua is represented at this event by a delegation comprised of Laureano Ortega Murillo, Presidential Advisor; Fernando Sánchez, Director of the Free Trade Zone Commission; Karina Mejía, Director of the Secretariat of Investment and Exports; and Ramiro Cruz, Nicaraguan Ambassador to China.
During the Opening Ceremony, Comrade Laureano Ortega Murillo delivered the opening remarks alongside Comrade He Baoxiang, Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Committee of the People's Republic of China, Comrade Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of Investment and Trade, and Comrade Liu Ning, General Secretary of the CPC of Henan Province.
In his address, Comrade Laureano conveyed greetings from the Co-Presidents of Nicaragua, Commander Daniel Ortega and Comrade Rosario Murillo, to President Xi Jinping, the Communist Party of China, the Chinese Government and People, and all participants of the Summit.
He also highlighted the historic brotherhood between the Communist Party of China and the Sandinista National Liberation Front, as well as the extraordinary achievements in bilateral cooperation since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations in 2021.
In his remarks, he reiterated Nicaragua's support for all initiatives presented by President Xi Jinping and the five Cooperation Programs between China and Latin America and the Caribbean proposed by President Xi last May.
Comrade Laureano emphasized the signing and entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between Nicaragua and China and the momentum with which investments by Chinese companies and entrepreneurs are developing in Nicaragua.
He presented the Belt and Road Initiative for Special Economic Zones, whose enabling legislation was recently approved by the National Assembly. This tool is designed to facilitate and promote investments, especially by Chinese companies in Nicaragua, with a focus on exports to generate industrialization, transformation, productivity, and above all, job creation.
