The President of Nicaragua, Commander Daniel Ortega, and Vice President, Comrade Rosario Murillo, are participating in the XVII China-Latin America and the Caribbean (China-LAC) Business Summit, which is being held in our country under the motto "Joining forces, creating opportunities: New horizons for China and Latin America and the Caribbean."
This event will be held on November 18 and 19, 2024 at the Olof Palme Convention Center in Managua.
The ceremony will be led, along with Commander Daniel and Comrade Rosario, by Comrade Laureano Ortega Murillo, Advisor to the Presidency for Investment, Trade and International Cooperation Issues; Comrade Yang Zhen, Vice President of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and Comrade Chen Xi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Nicaragua.
Handover of the flag of the China-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit The city of Zhengzhou will host the 18th China-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit.
The vice mayor of Zhengzhou, Mr. Ma Zhifeng, received the flag of the China-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit from Mr. Erwin Ramírez, vice minister of Development, Industry and Trade, as a symbol of commercial unity and the continuity of the economic project that includes the region. This city will host the 18th China-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit.
“Dear Mr. President Daniel Ortega, dear Madam Vice President Rosario Murillo, Mr. Minister Ramírez, dear Vice President Yang Zhen, Mr. Ambassador, ladies and gentlemen, friends, good evening. A few moments ago, in the presence of the leaders of China and Nicaragua, as well as the business representatives of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, I solemnly received on behalf of the municipal government of Zhengzhou the flag of the China-Latin America Business Summit from Mr. Jesús Bermúdez. I feel very honored. So Zhengzhou will assume, after Managua, the mission and responsibility of organizing the XVIII China-Latin America Business Summit in 2025,” said Ma Zhifeng.
Ma Zhifeng highlighted the beauty of the Nicaraguan capital, its progress and emphasized the main objective of the summit, which is focused on boosting the development of the countries of Latin America.
“Managua is not only the political, economic, cultural and transportation center, but also a beautiful city, full of charms, thanks to its countless parks and gardens. Today, government leaders and representatives of the business sector who come from China to Latin America and the Caribbean, meet at the XVII China LAC Business Summit, to discuss and explore new opportunities for economic and commercial cooperation, demonstrating once again the friendship that unites China and Latin America under the motto: Those who share the same ideals are not separated by mountains or seas,” he said.
The vice mayor also referred to the progress of the city of Zhengzhou, how over the years they have been working towards economic and social development, achieving great results.
“Zhengzhou is the capital of the province of Henan, a region noted for its economy, population, agricultural production, culture and emerging industry. Henan occupies an important place in the development of Chinese civilization, while its capital, Zhengzhou, is an ancient and modern metropolis. In recent years, guided by President Xi Jinping's thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, Zhengzhou has implemented new development concepts by firmly promoting innovative, green, high-quality development centered on people's well-being," he said.
"The city is working hard to become the center of innovation, advanced manufacturing, openness and talent, an international comprehensive transportation node, a national benchmark in the transmission of Chinese historical civilization and an international center of modern consumption, and is promoting the liberalization and facilitation of trade, investment and the flow and mobility between people by creating a world-class business environment," he said.

China is committed to unity and economic development with Latin America and the Caribbean For his part, Mr. Yang Zhen, vice president of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in his speech to the summit participants, greeted the Nicaraguan authorities and referred to the importance of the meeting, which represents a historic event.
“Recently, we have been able to work together as witnesses of the handover of the flag from China to LAC, this means the great success of this session. On behalf of the Chinese government, we would like to thank the government of the Republic of Nicaragua for its great support and work and great contribution to the organization of China-LAC, and I would also like to thank the business representatives of Latin America and the Caribbean for their great work in our friendly cooperation. We will continue to work hard to continue promoting our relationship so that it is more durable,” he said.
“We believe that the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are an important part of the Global South. In 2021, given the situation of efforts to obtain and continue the independence and sovereignty of the region, we established the China-LAC community 10 years ago in order to achieve joint development and regional and global globalization. This month, APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) was held in Peru and G20 in Brazil. Next year, we will celebrate the BRICS Summit and also the COP congress in Latin America. This means the importance of Latin America at a global level and we are also beginning to start the hour of Latin America and the Caribbean,” he added.
“China continues to work hard to promote global multilateralism in order to achieve equal treatment among the different countries of the world without interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. Countries, whether large or small, have the same sovereignty and share the same rights. The global future should be decided by everyone. China always supports Latin America and the Caribbean for its globalization and we pay close attention to the development of the relationship with Latin America and the Caribbean,” he emphasized.
“We are committed to continue advancing in mutual support in order to open up a shared future with equal treatment, and also to overcome challenges in order to provide a healthy environment and join forces towards the future of globalization with the most equitable, inclusive and shared-benefit destiny. With these initial principles, we are willing to continue working with Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve shared benefit and maintaining the inclusive concept in order to develop pragmatic cooperation for the well-being of the people,” he said.
“Trade and economic cooperation is the fundamental part and considers the stability of the economy and the relationship between both regions. China remains the second largest socio-economic trader with Latin America, reaching a total volume of 500 billion dollars in November. Reports have been published on the expectations of Latin America in terms of international trade. The region continues to work hard on its relations with other countries, with China as the market with the greatest growth. The business sector is the most important force to support the commercial and economic development of both regions. We hope that businessmen continue to work hard to be able to work supporting more openness, innovation and also initiating projects for more open and higher-level cooperation, with greater contributions looking towards the future. The Chinese side is willing to continue working with Latin America and the Caribbean, with the concept of union and also in order to be able to put into practice the initiatives for global development and global civilization, global development and global security in order to be able to achieve that we all lead towards a better future. We hope to see you in Zhengzhou next year,” Yang Zhen concluded.
