Nicaragua has participated in three consecutive editions of the International Import Exposition of China, held in Shanghai. This year, it stands out as one of the countries of honor, with a renewed presentation of its most representative agricultural products and a firm intention to expand its business with Chinese companies.
Laureano Ortega, presidential advisor for investments, trade and international cooperation, highlighted in an interview that this fair is the most important worldwide in terms of exports and imports, representing a great opportunity for Nicaragua to connect with this new market.
Ortega also stressed that Nicaragua presents high quality products, recognized globally; such as coffee, rum, beef, sea cucumber, lobster, shrimp and many others.
“We want them to get to know Nicaragua and generate that trust with the different institutional and business entities; so that Nicaraguan businessmen can establish links with Chinese companies,” he said.
Nicaragua seeks to expand its business in China with quality products
Ortega also mentioned that Nicaragua has great potential to increase the production of these products presented at the fair, especially focusing on the market of the People's Republic of China.
In January of this year, the Free Trade Agreement between Nicaragua and China came into force, which has driven significant progress to promote Nicaraguan products. "Nicaragua has seen concrete results from the free trade agreement; we have managed to export significant amounts to the Chinese market, exceeding 70 million dollars until October of this year, which is really significant for an emerging market," Ortega commented.
Finally, it was highlighted that China and Nicaragua have raised their relations to a strategic partnership, placing China as the second country that provides the most financing to Nicaragua. In this partnership, financing mechanisms for projects and the possibility of financing in alternative currency are promoted, thus strengthening the Chinese currency and generating benefits for both nations.
